Hurray for the PJ! I am certainly one to have gone to bed in the same top I’ve been wearing all day. Just take off the pants (or honestly, maybe not) and plop into bed, am I right? And while that can be a cozy choice, for me this casual manner with my nighttime attire was usually a lack of intention about my sleeping in general. And, my goodness, sleep is important!

Did you know that according to the CDC, “insufficient sleep has been linked to the development and management of a number of chronic diseases and conditions, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and depression” {source} Yikes! In addition, SleepEducation.org tells us that healthy sleep is vital for your physical health and mental health. As a person who deals with a panic disorder and general anxiety, I know for sure that getting not only enough sleep – but high quality sleep – helps me with my emotions, for sure. Plus the same source says healthy sleep improves memory and focus, and personal and public safety. That means you can get stuff done and do it safely, and well. Hurray! Here are a few more facts from SleepEducation.org about the type of sleep for which we should aim:

  1. Quantity Most adults need at least 7 hours of nightly sleep for optimal health and productivity. Some people need more sleep to feel well-rested. Try to get 7 or more hours of sleep per night. Set a regular bedtime that is early enough for you to get a full night of sleep.
  2. Quality Getting good sleep is important, too. Sleeping 7 hours each night isn’t enough: You also need quality sleep. Avoid common sleep disruptors in the evening. These include alcohol, caffeine and tobacco. Talk to your doctor if you are taking a medication that disturbs your sleep.
  3. Regularity It also is important to sleep at the right time. Healthy sleep is part of the daily rhythm of life. Your body sleeps best at night when it is dark. It also functions best when you keep a regular routine. Try to wake up at the same time every morning, and go to bed when you feel sleepy.

Being in pajamas, doesn't mean you can't still look fabulous. Kimmay shares her pajama picks in this blog. Here she is in Paris wearing a Fleur't nightgown.

So now that we know how important sleep is, let’s talk about PJs! I know that when I put thought and intention behind my evening routine, that includes what pajamas and evening attire I wear. There’s something really wonderful about sleeping in gorgeous, comfortable, even sexy pajamas or a beautiful, cozy nightgown. It makes me say hurray! And for a lot of us, it can improve our quality of sleep, and thus our quality of life. Hurray x100000!

  2. I’ve been known to wear this sleep shirt (which I’m wearing above) all day. It’s made of really soft (and environmentally friendly) modal, and is one of my favorite cuts to wear to bed. I think of it as a mixture between a PJ top and a nightgown bottom. The best mixture!
  3. This dramatic long nightgown is similar to the black one I’m wearing (above) in Guatemala. It’s got built-in bra support, is super soft, and I feel like a queen in it!
  4. A top and pants with a touch of lace makes me so happy. Those little, darling details really help me feel the beauty within me when I’m getting into bed after a long day.
