HURRAY KIMMAY PRESENTS

BEYOND MEASURE

Because numbers are information, not a definition.

You are beyond measure.

Reminder: They say the best things in life are free, but what they really are is immeasurable.

Your worth – and who you really are – is not measurable by a number. You are loved, radiant, supported, joyful, and bold … beyond measure.

I started the #MoreThanMyNumbers project back in 2015 and debuted the first photo campaign, calling in friends to participate, in 2016.  Each person held up a measuring tape to their bodies, but listed several numbers beside them. Did these numbers really tell us who this person is? The answer, every time, was no.

As a bra fitter, I noticed that each person I measured for their bra size wanted to know “What am I? What size am I?”. Not, “what size will fit me best”, but “what/who am I?”. I realized just how much we depended on the numbers in our lives to define us – bra size, dress size, salary, age, weight, followers, number of children, and on and on. I used the campaign to showcase different numbers that, without context, mean nothing. Because, in truth, numbers can only inform us of very little about ourselves. They are important, but not WHO we are. And because who that person really is – who you are – cannot be measured. The things that really matter are immeasurable.

Numbers are information, not a definition of your worth.

What started as a simple campaign, exploded globally. I went on to host workshops and events around the world, the campaign was picked up by Insider, I did a radio interview on the BBC, gave a keynote speech on it in NY, PA, and Spain, and more. We’ve done several waves of the campaign over the years, each time with amazing volunteers – real women – who shared their bra size and other numbers, without shame, without weighing their worth on it. This campaign struck a nerve. People, especially women, were no longer willing to let themselves be defined by numbers. They were open to seeing who they truly are.

10 years later I’m debuting something new: BEYOND MEASURE. This next version carries on the same message as the original campaigns, and turns the light toward what and who we really are. You are the things that cannot be measured. Your worth, your joy, your love, your courage are beyond measure. You are beyond measure.

Below you can find some definitions, each true about you. I invite you to pick your own Beyond Measure word to live with for a bit. Journal about it, pray on it, talk to your therapist and friends about it. Let it really sink in or lean fully into it. See what it’s like to start defining yourself by it, instead of numbers or comparison.

Let go of bra size or weight as the definer of your beauty, followers or salary as the measurement of your value, or anniversaries or birthdays declaring your deservedness. Use the examples below or pick your own word! Then share your #BeyondMeasure word and tag @HurrayKimmay on Instagram or TikTok so we can say hurray inside, outside, and underneath together!

Numbers can change, but your worth will not.

This is just the start. Now it’s time for you to embrace yourself BEYOND MEASURE.

Love is the most powerful and most important force in the world. When you know you are loved inside (self-love and divine love), by others (and how to accept that love from those around you), and underneath (finding love or neutrality for your body), it makes it so much easier to pour love into those around you.

And though Rent tried to measure “Seasons of Love”, the truth is there is no measurement for love. So you can’t quantify it with your follower count, salary, number of years married… etc.

And many times, we’ve misunderstood who we have to be or from where we need to source love. I highly suggest starting on the “Inside”, with self and divine love. Knowing that God (who created the whole universe!) loves me unconditionally, even when I have a hard time fully loving myself, gives me a strong foundation for building all other love (and Beyond Measure words!) upon.

Activity: write down affirmations that you can fully believe. If “I’m the most beautiful person in the world” doesn’t feel real to you, it won’t sink in and your mind will call you a liar. Instead, try something like “I am open to seeing my beauty”. Here are some examples you might want to try:

  • Love is all around me and within me
  • I am open to receiving love
  • I am worthy of love from myself, God, and others
  • I am unconditionally loved by my creator
  • My body is my best friend
  • The most powerful force is love
  • God is love
  • Learning to loving myself deeper and deeper benefits all around me
  • I receive love and pour it out to those around me

Write these on sticky notes and onto a mirror in your home. Yes, actually do this. It can be a big beautiful one over a fireplace in Paris, or just the bathroom mirror. Then, put on some fun music to dance to, spa music to breathe to, or worship music to praise to, and soak it in. Look into the mirror, right into your eyes, and for every thought that pops into your head that isn’t loving or true, lovingly forgive yourself for buying into a misunderstanding, then replace it with a truth (aka an affirmation from above), and then celebrate with some gratitude. Breathe deep. This is powerful work and you are loved!

Self-forgiveness is one of my favorite practices, and I’ll walk you through how it works with my Self-Forgiveness Gifts. They range from a worksheet, a short guided meditation, and a full blown 60 minute workshop – all for free.

“When you know how much God is in love with you, then you can only live your life radiating that love.”

-Mother Teresa

ra·di·ant /ˈrādēənt/

adjective: radiant 1. sending out light; shining or glowing brightly.

The light within you can not be measured! It’s innate, and it’s always been there and will be there. And it is not meant to be hidden. It’s up to you how and with whom you share it, but it has likely been masked, covered up, or dimmed as the years went on.

Sometimes we dim our lights because of fear of failure, fear of rejection, or fear of looking foolish. Surprise! These are actually all fear of being unloved. So go back to the first point and stand firm on how loved you are if you’re feeling wonky.

Ready to shine your light? Remember: you have something within you that only you can share. Others are missing out on what only you can offer. Lovingly let go of any worries about being too much, not enough, or vain as an experiment and see how spreading your light affects and lights up the world around you.

Here are a few ideas to get started, or ramp it up!

  • Reach out to encourage someone. Send a text, a postcard, or meme and spread some hurray!
  • Identify something you’ve wanted to share, do, or create but put the lid on it. What is truly stopping you from taking a step toward that? And what can you do this week to go for it?
  • Sign up for a class in something “shiny”, even if it’s terrifying. Painting, singing, improv, theater, public speaking, on camera hosting, a team sport, or walking club!
  • Create business cards and find three in-person networking events in your area. Practice your intro to confidently share what you do and how you radiate into the world, and commit to handing out 100% of your business cards!
  • Raise your hand and speak up to share advice, ask a question, or spread love. Don’t hide what’s within you.
  • Book a photo shoot. Optional to book a stylist or hair and makeup, make it boudoir, for work, or to celebrate a birthday and HAVE FUN! Let your personality and love radiate from within.

Pick one (or more!) and see what makes you say hurray!

“Your inner light is the revelation of the divine in you.”

— Carl G. Jung

One of my favorite Beyond Measure words! Quick reminder: we are designed to need support. Even if you DIY (do it yourself), you don’t have to DIA (do it alone). I say this all the time in my Fitters’ Formula program. And as a solo small business owner who prides herself on being resourceful, bootstrapping it, or not “needing” anyone else, I really had to learn to welcome in support. I realized that my hyper independence was really a fear of being let down or being too needy. But the truth was, even as capable as I am, I could only go so far on my own. So I had to address the fears, welcome in the truth, and stand firm in the support. Support can come in many forms, including:

  • Inside: Internal support, encouragement, and tools that help your mind find peace, clarity, and love.
  • Outside: Accepting words and works of support from friends, loved ones, coaches, therapists, experts, or even strangers.
  • Underneath: supporting your body with undergarments that uplift (my speciality!) and foods nourish.

After 21+ years of fitting folks for bras, I can tell you that a bra fitting and shopping for new bras is one of my most favorite ways to welcome in support. Mostly, because bras are right over the heart. So if there’s any shame (your bust is too much or not enough), discomfort (the bra is digging in or slipping down), or confusion (does this bra even fit?), it can close off the heart. But when you wear what what fits well, feels good, and looks amazing you can stand tall with your shoulders back, and heart out. Hurray!

Activity: Go bra bra shopping! And whether you go to an expert or DIY it, you don’t have to do it alone. Absolutely grab my Free Fit Guide so you can get the best fitting, most comfortable, and MOST supportive bras for yourself.

Big thanks to La Vie En Rose, who sent over this super supportive strapless bra for my shoot in Paris (with cozy memory foam cups!). It has one of the most unique bands of criss crossing, supportive elastic that wraps around the body for (you guessed it) the best support. Imagine the freedom you will feel and what you can do when you’re not worried about a bra slipping down or digging in. Drop by their stores or shop online!

Sizing note: I usually wear a 34 band, but this strapless fits snug and I went with a 36. That meant I went from 34DDD to the sister size of 36DD so I could keep the cup size volume I needed, but with the larger band size.

“Life is not a solo act. It’s a huge collaboration, and we all need to assemble around us the people who care about us and support us in times of strife.”

-Tim Gunn

Though our joy cannot be measured, we can increase our access to it. In my many bouts with depression, I often felt that joy was inaccessible. It seemed as if I was in a well, filling with water, and the only accessible feelings inside the well were sadness, anger, shame, and hopelessness. I could see joy on the other side of the thick brick wall, but couldn’t reach it. If you are feeling that way, I have great news: you will feel joy again.

The thing is, just as joy is not measurable, joy doesn’t go anywhere. It doesn’t leave you. You might just have a fuzzy connection, or lost the access temporarily. But it’s always there and will always return. Often, I think of the Psalm 30:5, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” Sometimes those nights are more than an actual evening, and you may be tempted to feel like it will never end. But even in places like Alaska, where is can be dark and cold for many months, the darkness always eventually gives way to light. Deep breaths. Joy is coming.

Note: it’s 100% ok to feel sad or to weep through the dark times. Feel it, process it, work with a great therapist (aka get some support as mentioned above!), or even medication. But never lose hope that joy is on its way. Hurray.

Activity: There are ways that you can nurture your access to joy. The first is to ask your heart “what brings me joy?” and then truly listen. Sometimes, we’ve simply lost sight of what even fills us with joy. It’s ok, just ask. Free write or visualize whatever comes up. I did this recently and what came up was not what I expected. I saw flashbacks to times that I was serving alongside others – singing, teaching, building homes, serving food, and volunteering. And always in community. So now, I make it a point to purposefully find or create opportunities to do those things.

Another great way to nurture joy is to go back to little you, when maybe you were the most carefree and joyful. Ask 5 -7 year old you what brings them joy. Little me loved playing pretend, making art, creating, singing, and laughing with others. So, out come the water colors, karaoke, dancing in my living room, and dinner dates with girlfriends who light me up. I even went to pet and hold baby goats with a friend! Little me would have loved that. And sometimes, our younger selves are so wise when it comes to what we need now.

And a final suggestion: wear color and what brings you joy! That might mean a fluffy orange dress, sparkly heels, and giant sunglasses while dancing through the streets of Paris. But it can also mean a delicious blue sweater, the color of the ocean, and simple slacks. Or maybe it’s a a uniform but with funky earrings, or even a sassy or colorful bra and underwear set. Even if no one else sees it, you know it’s there, and you reap the joyful benefits. Hurray!

This fun dress was rented! I also wore it under a hot pink blazer when I hosted a panel in NYC. You can use this link to get $30 off your first rental with Nuuly:  https://share.nuuly.com/kimmay83

“We need joy as we need air. We need love as we need water. We need each other as we need the earth we share.”

-Maya Angelou

bold /bōld/ adjective

1. (of a person, action, or idea) showing an ability to take risks; confident and courageous.

I am naturally an anxious person. I have dealt with general anxiety and panic disorder since I was at least 9 years old. And one of the things I’m most proud of in this world, is not letting my fears stop me. While most people see a confident person on TV who loves to wear bold colors, it’s taken a lot of intention to get to that place.

Sayings like “feel the fear and do it anyway” or “do it afraid” have helped, but what really got me going was looking at the word “courage” vs. the word “confident.” In, fact, I’ve hosted workshops and given talks on this over and over again, because it changed my life so much. The truth is that confidence just comes from a belief that you can do something. If often comes from competence or skill. There’s no real fear involved because you know or believe you can do the thing.

But courage, which shares etymology with an old French word for heart, means following through on something that scares you. That is bold, that’s risky, that’s a hurray. And, chances are, you’ve done plenty of bold and courageous things in order to get to where you are today. You’ve had to face a fear, do something new, step out in front of others, and risk something. So give yourself some credit! You can’t measure boldness, but you can certainly celebrate what you’ve done, and take a new bold step, too.

Activity: Want to be bolder? Identify something that your heart really wants. Go ahead – make a list! Then, ask yourself what feels scary about each one. Then choose the desire at the intersection of “my heart really wants this” and “this feels so scary!” and take a deep breath.

I remember a wise therapist once told me that the only kind of therapy that really works is “exposure therapy”. You can expose yourself to the fear in many forms – internally, journaling, actually doing an activity that scares you, etc but it all involves facing the fear, not running from it. So, set up one small activity you can do to lovingly face this fear currently in the way of what your heart wants.

One idea is to visualize the fear as a big bear, racing after you or in the way of what you want. Faster and faster you’re being chased through a forest. Then, instead of running away from it, with intention, visualize yourself standing solid, with kindness and understanding and authority, knowing that this bear may look dangerous but you are also bold enough to stand up to it. Visualize the bear calming down, the roar turning to a soft purr, the claws retracting, the heart slowing. Then visualize that bear getting smaller and younger, until it’s a little baby bear, or even a cartoon bear – friendly, playful, trusting, sweet. Look the bear right in the face and say, “I’m not afraid of you. I love you.” See what this does for your nervous system. See how you feel afterward. See what’s possible next for you when you stay steady, strong, and courageous.

Another idea is to reframe that fear as excitement. Reframe the worry as protection. And reframe the potential failure as a learning opportunity. These are all steps to get you where you want to go.

And always go back to some of the previous Beyond Measure words. Remind yourself that you are loved, encourage yourself to shine radiantly, lean on support, step forward with joy, and let the strength of those truths make you bold…beyond measure.

I get asked about my pink, dangling earrings a lot. I bought them at a Zara in Paris years ago, and can’t find a suitable substitute for you. Shop the rest below and find your own way to be bold!

Remember: oftentimes, just being yourself in a world that has told you to dress or act a certain way is bold. So wear what YOU want and say hurray inside, outside, and underneath.
