What is a Front Closure Bra?

A front closure bra is a bra that clasps closed in the front of the bra. Typically it will close at the “center gore”, or the part of the band directly between the bust. Front close bras can clasp with a slider buckle or a traditional hook and eye. They can also have just one, or several clasps up and down.

When to wear a Front Closure Bra

Bras with a front closure can be worn whenever you like! And, there are some specific reasons why front closure bras are great for some folks. Bra wearers with specific needs can benefit from wearing a front close bra because of how they are put on, clasp, or adjust. Here are just a few time when it can be best to wear a front closure bra:

  • Folks with mobility issues (especially in the shoulders or arms)
  • Post surgery (especially if it impedes mobility)
  • Arthritis or other pain
  • For a smooth, no closure back (great for certain outfits)
  • For a racerback top
  • For a fun design in the back
  • For a deep, front plunge (some front closure bras have a very small center gore)

Think about your wardrobe needs and your physical needs and see if a front closure would suit you, and help you say hurray!

Pros and Cons of Front Closure Bras

Most of the pros of a front close bra were listed above. Wearing one can support your physical and wardrobe needs! That being said, there are some “cons” [or at least things to think about] when it comes to buying and trying a front closure bra.

One main issue with front close bras is that they often only have one closure, while most back closure bras have three to four columns for closure. With more columns, there is more opportunity for a better fit, especially as the bra stretches. Some bras with a front clasp do have more than one row, but traditionally it’s just the one.

Additionally, many front closure bras have a deep plunge with just the one clasp. This can be great if you want a lower front, and difficult if a lower front doesn’t suit your needs. Remember, front close bras do come with various amounts of clasps, including several heights. Find what works best for you!

Buy & Try Front Closure Bras

What you wear on your body, right over your heart is up to you! Below are some great options to buy & try for yourself. You can pop by a local boutique and try some of these, order online, or buy at a department store. There are many options out there and below is a round up of some of the most popular, accessible, or downright “hurray” bras out there. Which will you buy and try for yourself?

Front Closure Molded Cup Bras

The benefit of wearing a smooth, molded cup bra is that it provides a seamless look under tight tops and tees, and it can provide some modesty if you don’t want your nipples showcased. Le Mystere makes some of my most favorite bras and is so reliable for the everyday go-to options. This front closure style is no different! I loved wearing the mesh back on a super hot day in NYC because it was breathable, and the smooth cups look great underneath just about anything. Hurray! Try it for yourself or take a look at some of the other options below.

It’s no secret that I adore AnaOno for their “boob inclusive” products and wire-free bras. Even though these were made with post surgical needs in mind, they work great for all kinds of busts and bodies. I have natural breasts and still wear these cozy bras! Not to mention, they are downright cute. Check out the featured lace style below (just one front close option from this brand) along with other wire-free options!
