Big news: I’m back on The Today Show for my 10th time! Can you believe it? I’m very honored, and very thankful to have such a joyful and far reaching opportunity to share what makes me say hurray. And most importantly, that we can each take our own step to adorn and support our bodies. Hurray!
This time, I’m back with Jenna and Sheinelle to discuss the best bras for under summer tops and dresses. Don’t let your bra woes stop you from wearing the outfit you desire, or from getting the support you want. Below you’ll find answers to questions like:
- What is the secret to finding a strapless bra that fits and feels good?
- What is the best kind of bra for under a halter top?
- Do those sticky bras really work? And what is the difference between all of the options?
- What can I wear under a plunging neckline?
And a bonus tip that didn’t make it on air:
- Does a red bra really disappear under white?
Below, you’ll find the shopping links for the bras, undergarments, and clothes I shared on Today, as well as additional options.
Remember: drop by your local bra boutique or dedicated bra shop for a true fitting, or shop online and test drive these styles for yourself. Each one has different features or advantages, and you get to decide how to say hurray!
Psst! Some of the brands linked here might be past or future partners of mine, but were independently chosen for this segment without compensation or contract. I’m proud to bring them your way! There might also be an affiliate link for additional options below. As always, I share what I think will support you and help you say hurray.
Halter Top / Strapless Bras
This look on Brooke is so adorable! But what do you wear under a halter top when you want some support? A strapless bra is THE most versatile thing in your wardrobe – from BBQs to black tie events! But so many people I fit think the could never find a strapless bra that is comfortable, supportive, and looks great. Think again.
- A good strapless can be worn under many different tops and dresses, including halter. Just make one strap long and wrap it around your neck, hooking in the front on both sides.
- Important bra fitter top: While they come with straps, make sure your strapless bras fits well without them! You should not rely on the strap alone to keep the bra up. It’s just there for extra assurance.
- Good strapless bras are now available up to O cup, so don’t think you can’t wear one. In fact, I have an entire article with some of the best strapless bras and additional tips for getting the best fit.
- Strapless bras also come in different lengths (longline, bustier, etc) so pick the length and support structure that works with your outfit and body.
- Please, do NOT try the hack of taking one strap and wrapping it around the band for extra support. This just means your bra doesn’t fit and will end up in pain or disaster, or both. Just because it’s popular on TikTok doesn’t mean it’s best for you, or your bra.
- Remember, the most important part of any bra is getting a good fit:
- DO make sure the band is wide, and fits snug like a hug.
- DO make sure the wire (if there is one) fits just around the bust – not on it. Bust tissue is very unstable, so make sure everything fits inside the cup and the wire rests on the body. And it needs to tack in the front onto the body to anchor across from the back band. If it’s floating away, there are no straps to save it and keep it up and it WILL fall down.
- Underwire gives the strapless bra the frame to stay up and in place while you dance. In the right size and fit, it can be pretty comfortable!
- I have a Free Fit Guide that walks you through the top 5 most important things to look for in a good fit. No one taught you this, and that’s ok. I’m here to help!
- Bonus tip: don’t overwear your strapless bra. Keep it for special tops and when you really need it so it doesn’t stretch out!
The bra Brooke is wearing is from Le Mystere, and has some pretty neat features:
- An innovative exposed spandex fabrication that is strategically bonded to the inner foam pad and back wings. That’s Bra Nerd speak for: the inside of this bra has comfortable, and non-slip grip against the skin. (Wait until you feel the inside of the cup!)
- The paper thin, seamless back looks sleek under clothes and lays flat.
- The molded cup and underwire frame offer amazing shape and a smooth silhouette.

We didn’t have time to get to all of the amazing strapless bras on the table on air, so here’s the scoop on some additional styles that might support you!
- Natori – Bliss Perfection Strapless Contour Underwire: I wear this often! I love the super soft overlay.
- Panache – 365 Moulded Strapless Bra: this was the bra on the mannequin! Super smooth and up to a US I cup
- Panache – Faith Moulded Strapless Bra: this was the one in black on the table. It has a great plunge, fits up to a US K cup, and is the exact bra I’m wearing under my dress.
- Le Mystere – Lace Allure Bustier: gorgeous white lace with a cropped longline band. The models were obsessed with this one in the green room!

Backless Dress / Stick on Bras
Ebony was shining in this stunning backless dress. Maybe you want to wear an open back, low back, or backless outfit, too, but can’t figure out what to wear underneath. There are plenty of clothing styles that are just made to be worn braless and we need to get creative! Here to help.
- You can just wear nipple covers like those from TrueKind, below, if that’s enough. If you want them to disappear onto the skin, please use seamless silicone for an invisible look.
Need more support? Tape, like Brassybra, has come A LONG way. If you learn the tricks for application and shaping, it can support even fuller or softer busts!
- Remember to get a color that is close to your skin if you want it to blend in like you see on Ebony. There are so many great skin tone options now!
- Important: application is key.
- Wash your bust with soap and water to eliminate any lotions or oils.
- Then, fully air dry before you apply! This is so important.
- Tip: apply disposable nipple pasties beforehand if you’re sensitive
- Then, I suggest starting with the sticky part at the bottom, just before the bust room or even slightly higher. Gently hoist up the bust before applying to the top. Rub it to use heat to activate the glue and secure the fit!
- Wait 20-30 minutes to let it set, then cut it to fit your bust shape or neckline.
- Use strips to shape on the side. Either the leftovers from a pre-cut, or bonus strips.
- Avoid taping too high on the collar bone.
- BE SURE to douse in oil (baby or coconut or even olive!) before removing. Do not just yank it off!
- There are also reusable, silicone options like those from CAKES body. My friend swears by these but what really caught my eye is the “tape” that is like a thin piece of skin. So seamless! They come in several skin tones, and you can layer these and reuse them at least 5 times!

Brassybra – That Little Extra

Ramy Brook – Anaya Flower Drop Earrings
More Backless Options
We ran out of time to get to some of the fabulous options on the table, so here’s a list on some additional styles to try!
- CAKESbody
- Grippy CAKES™ Triangles – non-adhesive, seamless covers that stay in place thanks to body heat and a snug top
- Sticky CAKES™ Circles – the adhesive version of the popular circles, with a special non-sticky part for your sensitive nipple
- CAKES™ Tape – strips of super thin, skin-like silicone you can layer and reuse
- Truekind® – Smooth Silicone Nipple Covers are simple, seamless, offer some modesty, and are reusable many times.
Plunge Front
Daring low fronts, whether down to the navel or just to below the bra line, are in style! Years and years ago I wrote a blog article on what to wear under plunge front outfits. Tt’s still one of my popular articles to date. That means everyone is wondering what to wear under a plunge front dress! For those that are super low, you can wear the tape. But if it dips just below the bra line, I have another solution, or two.
- This plunging front dress that Cassandra is wearing is from LSPACE, and it matches perfectly with this plunge front bra from Felina. The bra has built-in push up for a little extra cleavage, and a daring U-shaped front. The slightly longer band helps anchor it in place and go lower without losing support. It’s also completely convertible, so it can be worn halter or criss-cross in the back. And wait until you see the silicone backing technology inside the band that keeps the bra securely positioned. Genius!
- There are other great plunge options from Natori, or even a bodysuit with shaping from Shapellx. Find the plunge that matches your outfit.
- And if the plunge is too showy for you, try a little extra coverage! A lace cami bra provides support and subtle modesty, like the Anais from Journelle. It’s so gorgeous and comes in many colors!
- Don’t forget that fashion tape is your friend to keep the edge of the outfit aligned with your bra for a cohesive look. Hurray!
More Plunge Front
There are so many options for plunge front tops, we just couldn’t cover them all on air! Try these fabulous options, and visit the blog article about What to Wear Underneath Plunging Necklines that remains my most popular post!

- Natori – Verge Convertible Plunge Contour Underwire: soft, flexible material and no push-up for a more natural lift

- Journelle – Anais Bralette: one of the more creative options for those who don’t want to show off any cleavage
Red Bras Under White
Ok, ya’ll, we ran out of time to include this next topic, and the wonderful Teresa who modeled for us. And, this one is controversial. Some people – including my fellow bra fitters – swear by this trick, while others are skeptical. Let’s see where you land.
Did you know that red can be a neutral under white? Tersea is wearing this fabulous red t-shirt bra with a mesh overlay from Curvy Couture under a great white blouse from Eloquii. It fits like a glove and she feels amazing in it! But, can you see it?
On those day when your best skin tone bra needs to be laundered, or if you just don’t want to wear a skin tone bra that day, try red! Tip: Match the red to your skin tone (blue veins are cool, purple are warm). There are so many variations of red, so test it out and see for yourself!
Truthfully, I still prefer getting as close as possible to your skin tone if you want your bra to be invisible, but why not have a little fun?! It’s summer. Wear what makes you say hurray!

More Red Bra Options
These fabulous brands sent bras for Teresa to try. Truthfully, it was difficult to find great bras in red in the size range that would fit her best. Teresa wears a 42-44 band and C-D cup. The larger band, smaller cup bra wearers are often underserved and bras can be hard to find. As a bra fitter for 21 years, I felt confident I knew the best brands with bras in her size. And I did!
However, many of them only had beige or black bras, or maybe one fashion color of the season. Red is a common bra color for other sizes, but not for this size range. I was disappointed, but persevered. This is just more evidence that the intimates industry has more improvements to make. Luckily, the brands below had some beautiful options in her size in various red tones. Hurray! Shop them for yourself, and explore all of the other color options they have.
